Many companies aim to increase productivity by highlighting the comforts of their offices. However, the comfortable office constructed in the imagination does not necessarily improve employee motivation, increase productivity, or lead to happy employees.

Somewhere in our hearts, we always have the desire to return to nature. Since it is not realistic to create an office in the forest, there is a demand for relaxing spaces where workers can get a sense of nature even if it is a mere imitation.

Offices vary a great deal from one company to another. When considering options for the ideal office, there are so many key factors include the type of business, the number of people, and the flow of the people. At Taisei we listen to everything our clients say including descriptions of the company, what the company wants from the employees, and what the employees want from the company before proposing the optimal environment for each office.
About T-GARDEN at the Tokyo head office
We have upgraded the T-GARDEN at our head office in Tokyo as a space for creating new business and as an eco-friendly showroom and conference space where we have installed the furniTure series.
The new office consists of an office area and the T-GARDEN. Since we work within easy view of each other on one floor, communication between departments has become easier. It is possible to create flexible spaces by using the furniTure series, which is lightweight and easy to rearrange. It is our hope that plenty of collaboration and innovation will take place in these open and relaxing spaces.
Reception
We have created a space that feels transparent by eliminating as many barriers as possible. The young tree placed at the back has a symbolic function, the significance being that it will grow as the company prospers. By arranging plenty of indirect lighting, the space feels different during the day and the night.
Hexagonal meeting spaces
The spaces create a sense of intimacy between meeting participants, but there is also a feeling of openness. The relaxed atmosphere encourages open-minded discussion.
Individual booths
We have used the traditional kigumi joinery technique to build the booths by assembling interlocking pieces. The layout can be changed at will by disassembling and reassembling the panels. The front and the sides are enclosed to allow employees to concentrate on their own work. The booths are often used for online meetings.
Solar panels
We have installed solar panels in the office. The panels have been designed to fit in with the office. By linking the panels to the LOOP LINE T1 product from Taisei, we have built a system that converts thermal energy into electricity, which can be used to power computers or to provide reserve power in case of a disaster.

Relaxation space
This relaxation space for the exclusive use of employees encourages unexpected conversations. The interior of the seating is used for storage.
Taisei and the SDGs, plus the T-GARDEN
Both clean and green
Resins and metals are typically used for interiors and to create space in buildings and offices, but Taisei has used wood and paper as the primary materials to develop an office furniture series. The raw material comes from the fast-growing paulownia tree, which absorbs ten times more CO2 than other trees. Ordinary paulownia matures in about twenty years, but the fast-growing variety becomes a robust and mature tree in four to five years. Planting and cultivating paulownia is a step toward our aim of introducing innovation in the office space. We use furniture made from the paulownia wood for the T-GARDEN. We plan to increase the use of paulownia wood by taking advantage of the qualities of this fast-growing tree.
