Taisei Vision of the SDGs
Taisei has formulated a Declaration on the SDGs. This page explains the activities we promote and our SDGs initiatives in an accessible format.
Since its foundation in 1959, Taisei Co., Ltd. has contributed to society by improving the functionality of buildings and creating job opportunities through a comprehensive building maintenance business. With Ready for Change as the slogan, the 7th mid-term business plan (fiscal 2020-2022) adopted a new policy focused on the sustainable development goals (SDGs) with the aim of playing our part in realizing a society that considers the environment and workstyle reform through the facility management business. Based on this policy, we are forming partnerships with stakeholders to promote activities aimed at sustainable urban development on the themes of clean water, hybrid society, and fresh air.
Our initiatives ①
・By 2026, reduce the amount of detergent by 50% compared to 2021
Reasons and aims
Clean water
From business as usual to a clean planet
The cleaning business, which is the principal business at Taisei, consumes large amounts of detergent. Since cleaning is something that we do every day, we can significantly reduce the environmental impact of waste water by using less detergent when we provide cleaning services. We plan to collaborate with venture companies to develop water with the ability to remove dirt. By using less detergent to remove dirt, we will implement cleaning techniques that consider the environment.
Our initiatives ②
・By 2026, we will use 500 ugo security avatar robots and T-Concierge next-generation reception systems
・By 2024, we will install T-Spider and sensors in 30% of the properties we manage
Reasons and aims
The hybrid (people × IoT) society
At ease with state-of-the-art technology
The shortage of workers is accelerating as the birthrate dwindles and the population ages. Meanwhile, building services are vital to maintaining social infrastructure. It is essential that we let go of the current labor-intensive working style, introduce hybrid management of people and state-of-the-art technologies to improve quality, and deliver cost reductions. Using our expertise and knowledge of building services, we have formed partnerships with companies that are developing IoT, robotics, and other cutting-edge technologies to provide the ugo security avatar robot and the T-Spider information platform.
Our initiatives ③
・By 2026, build ten office environments focused on the furniTure series
・By 2026, plant 2400 fast-growing paulownia on 4 hectares
Reasons and aims
Refreshing office space
From green to clean
Resins and metals are typically used for interiors and to create spaces in buildings and offices, but Taisei has used wood and paper as the primary materials to develop the furniTure series for the office. The raw material comes from the fast-growing paulownia tree, which absorbs ten times more CO2 than other trees. Ordinary paulownia matures in about twenty years, but the fast-growing variety becomes a robust and mature tree in four to five years. Planting and cultivating paulownia is a step toward our aim of introducing innovation in the office space.
Our initiatives ④
• Develop forests that realize the new normal life (ecotopia)
• By 2050, ecotopia will be 100% energy and food self-sufficient
Reasons and aims
Sustainable urban development
Ecotopia: The crowning achievement at Taisei
We aim to create an ecotopia as the ultimate form of these three initiatives. We will work with several partners to develop forests and to set up the infrastructures such as farms, log houses, and solar power generation, as well as an information and communications environment for remote work. The output will be an extraordinary eco town space and a proposal for a new way of living on the SDGs that we aim to achieve.
We have identified materiality by clarifying the key issues.
We identified materiality when formulating the SDGs Declaration. First, we identified the social issues in the SDGs, the Paris Agreement, and in our own work. Then, we analyzed and mapped the degree of importance for our company and the impact on stakeholders along two axes. Our materiality is indicated at top right of the matrix, which was verified through discussions with external experts before finalization.
We have visualized a value creation model for our comprehensive building services.
We promote SDGs initiatives at every stage of our business.
At Taisei, we keep the SDGs in mind at every stage of our business activities. In addition to the new initiatives outlined in the SDGs policy, the activities that we have promoted for a long time are indicated at each stage in the value chain
